11th May

Hi Everyone,

How do you describe today’s amazing organic Appliqué Workshop with Kathy? We were inspired with Kathy’s knowledge and her brilliant teaching to encourage us to think and create out of our comfort zone. It was incredible to see how our members where enjoying making stems, leaves and flowers out of their fabric selections. The technique Kathy taught was certainly manageable for us all.
A huge ‘Thank You’ to Kathy for taking time out of your busy day to talk, teach and assist us with organic appliqué.

Heather delivered to Blue & Yellow Hearts the finished quilts for Ukrainian displaced people this week. Natalka who is the co-ordination was blown away with the large size of the quilts. Thanks to those members who contributed in making blocks and to those who took on the task of finishing the quilts.

Community Day

 Hi Everyone,

A busy day today with members working on Community quilts. One quilt was in the process of working out colour combinations on the design wall, another having it’s label being sewn. Patience was being exercised with the piecing work of hexagons and at the end of the hall a table covered with a Wagga. I am always amazed at the variety and creativity of our members Community quilts.

Happy Birthday to our members who celebrate their Birthday in May. 🎂

Retreat Weekend 27th - 29th October  We are looking at Kurri Kurri TAFE for our retreat this year and have a tentative booking but what we require is to know if you are interested in attending. I have placed the retreat list on the table today for members to register your interest. We need a minimum number of 20 people to move forward with our booking. Narelle has the accommodation prices however they are based on 20 people attending so please consider coming and write your name on the list ASAP.

Quilt Show 2024  Last week I reported we had our first Show Committee Meeting - a copy of the minutes is on the table for you to read. Kathy has offered her expertise to design our Raffle quilt for the show. Today Kathy spoke to us about her ideas on the design and choice of fabrics. To help prepare us on the technique required for the raffle quilt Kathy will hold a workshop on Appliqué next week at quilting.

If you wish to participate bring with you some background fabric approx 8” , 5 or 6 different coloured fabrics for sewing a stem, leaf and flower, glue stick, mini iron and woollen ironing mat if you have them.

20th April

 Hi Everyone,

What a morning we had being locked out of the hall only to find out a flat battery was the cause! Thank you for being so understanding and waiting in the rain for the hall to be opened by Council.

Show Committee Meeting is next Thursday 27th April at 1:30pm

There are a few positions vacant on the Show Committee if you are interested in taking up a role please come and join us. This is a rewarding opportunity, as our Quilt Show is a time to showcase our quilting skills, raise money for charity and connecting with our local community. Please remember to submit your suggestions for a Judge and a Charity in writing to Alison or myself.

Show & Tell

Jenny completed two quilts for Community - one from a lockdown challenge and the other was made from Jenny’s collection of 2.5 inch squares. Dawn made a cheerful blue and yellow baby quilt.  Our 2022 Christmas Challenge quilt was completed by Iris who selected the quilt design for us to complete over the holiday break. It is amazing what you can do with a jelly roll that was gifted to us, thanks Sybil.

 Hi Everyone,

A smaller group today but our members were busy sewing with so many amazing projects being stitched.

70 Baby quilts were packed ready to be taken to Little Wonder @ RPA for the newborns in the NICU. Many thanks to our ladies who created these amazing baby quilts. This brings me to Christie’s “weekly baby quilt” it put a smile on all our faces. The emotions on the dogs faces is priceless.

23rd March

 Hi Everyone,

Today we were able to welcome back some members who haven’t been able to meet with us for some time. It was wonderful to be able to have a catchup and see them in person.

Jenny S has completed a Bonnie Hunter designed quilt - 2021 challenge, for community. A truly amazing quilt Jenny!

Two quilts from the Blue group were made for Community, one being colourful fish and the other black and white with colourful squares.

Carolyn came with 10 baby quilts to add to our collection for Little Wonder RPA. This week’s baby quilt from Christie were fish swimming between the seaweed.

This is the final week to pay Membership fees. Thank you to everyone who has already paid. 👏

16th March

 Hi Everyone,

We were grateful for the air conditioned hall at quilting today.

Sue D has been able to put us in contact with a Women’s Refuge in Taree who are happy to receive our community quilts made by our members. Hunters Hill Quilters today donated 9 quilts and 8 cot quilts so they can be given to women and children who require new living arrangements. Thank you Sue for taking care of the delivery for us.

Marie K showed her quilt top she made from material her son had purchased from a recent visit to Japan. The backing was just as impressive as the quilt top making it reversible, two quilts in one!

Christie presented her completed weekly baby quilt with a cute Koala print backing material.

🤔 Reminder about fees please pay before the end of the month.

Community Day

 Hi Everyone,

Firstly I would like to express my thanks to Judy for her amazing Presidency over the past 5 years. My transition into the role has been a smooth one owing to Judy’s time and detailed notes she provided. I would also like to thank Ros and Akiko who have willingly accepted to continue in their roles as Secretary and Treasurer. To the Committee and HHQ members thank you for your encouragement and support.

Today was a busy one with community quilts being stitched. Our Christmas Challenge was up on the design wall under the supervision of Iris and we look forward to its progress over the coming months.

A reminder that Membership Fees are now due. They can be paid directly to Akiko or you can EFT your payment.

23 February, 2023

 Hi Everyone,

We have had our AGM and we now have a new President! Sandy will do an outstanding job.

I have enjoyed the last 5 years with all its challenges. It has certainly been a most unusual time for us all but we seem to have come through pretty well.

This will be my last Blog. Having to prepare it every week can become a chore but it is a good place to showcase our work.

Alison takes care of our Instagram posts and Iris looks after Facebook. It all works well.

Many of you make a special effort to attend the AGM. It was wonderful to see so many there. Laurel and Kathy were there. Unfortunately Beryl R. has had a fall and is quite unwell. Also we miss Carolyn who has been in hospital and also Marie G. who is also also unwell.

We hope to see them again very soon.

I was overwhelmed with my beautiful quilt given as a parting gift from you all. I just love it. Even Ian was amazed by it. Thank you all very much. It will be treasured.

Show and Tell:

 Hi Everyone,

We had a good roll up this week. The top table was absent again however. We miss them. Also Carolyn is not well.

We did however have a surprise visit from Felicity. She looked well and enjoyed seeing everyone again.

Grace was busy collecting bits and pieces for her two "Wagga Show and Tell" talks later in the year.

Both Sue D and Laurel are planning on coming next week for the AGM. We look forward to seeing them.

Show and Tell:

February 9

 Hi Everyone,

Not much in the way of news to report this week.

Helena arrived with boxes of leftover scraps and bits and pieces for us all to share. Alison collected many small pieces in preparation for the 2024 Show Quilts.

Helena will be away for a while but assures us that she will be back. We look forward to that.

The number one table has been vacant for the last two or three weeks. Iris has been busy with relatives from overseas. We miss them. Hopefully they will be present for the AGM on the 23rd.

Many of us look forward to our Thursdays. Our discussions vary widely and are always enjoyable.

Community Day

 Hi Everyone,

We had a lively and busy Community Day this week. The orange group starred again! No sooner had they put their pieces up on the design wall when suddenly the quilt was sewn together. Must be some sort of a record. I have a feeling that Christie had a lot to do with that.

I look forward to seeing their new project next Community day.

Heather asked me to pass on news about Eastwood Quilters.

The group is having a Show and Tell evening on 22 March for a 7.30 start.
