18/8/16 A RELAXED AND CONTENTED GROUP!

Yes, all the hard work is behind us, and it was well worth the effort. We basked in the success of our show and enjoyed chatting about everything that had happened during the four days.
Plans were already being discussed for next time, and as always we learn from what we've done and improve on it as well.

Next week the committee will meet to do a detailed feedback and wrap-up of the show, and the hall will be re-booked for 2018!

Congratulations quilters on your beautiful work. So many visitors commented on the quality and variety of Hunters Hill Quilters skills, especially this year.

We were delighted to welcome two new members this week. Christy and Janet joined us, and will officially join this week we hope. Welcome ladies.

We don't miss a beat, and here are some SHOW AND TELL items to prove that we keep creating.

Jenny showed us a quilt top she has put together from a pack bought at the Material Obsession shop at the show. Quick work! It's a lovely new range which I notice a few girls are giving a try. Show us again when it's finished Jenny! It's looking great.

Beryl R showed this sweet baby quilt she has made for the Grace Centre. Very cute fabrics. Thanks Beryl. Thank you.

And Iris showed this quilt which has been called "Laurel's Rose Garden" because of fabric donated by Laurel. It will go into the community collection.

Here is a shot 'pinched' from Facebook, of Joy standing beside one of her waggas. It was sold at the show, and the buyer was so impressed she posted this shot of Joy and the quilt. Very nice Joy, and a very happy customer!

Cheers everyone. See you soon again.

STOP THE PRESSES! BEST SHOW EVER! 14/8/16

Yes, we have been told by many visitors to the show that this was the best Hunters Hill Show ever, and that they come every year! What a wonderful accolade!

Others added that the Hunters Hill Show is, in their opinion, the best quilt show in Sydney.

This deserves hearty congratulations to the entire Show Committee, who have worked so hard.
All the added initiatives this year were a big hit. The stitching lounge became a strong magnet for both visitors and members alike.

The Grandkids Corner drew compliments from visitors as a wonderful way to inspire young kids to become stitchers and quilters in the future. I know that the contributors to this display are eager to do so again in two years time - bigger and better!

A fresh look for the cafe made it even more welcoming than it has always been. Well done to the new team for taking this on.

Another fresh look for the stage sales drew many compliments and customers. Excellent work team!

Many people coming through the doors asked immediately whether we still had the Wagga display. These are so popular and looked forward to each year. Well done girls.

The display of baby quilts for the Grace Centre was a delight for all visitors. It created much interest in this on-going effort the group carries out.

Congratulations to the committee and all members who helped out in many different ways. It all came together beautifully and presents quite a challenge to match in two years time!
And congratulations to all the prize winners. Well deserved after all your efforts.

See you all on Thursday. Enjoy this glorious weather - our reward for an excellent show!

Last day of a most successful 2016 Show

A day of sunshine, city to surf and enthusiastic visitors: a perfect end to a very successful show.

City to Surf first:  Akiko,  with her Hunters Hill Quilt Show Flyer,  was a front runner at the city to surf, running fast to get back to her Quilting Waitressing job.    Congratulations Akiko.

The raffle was drawn by Narelle:  a pretty large bag of raffle slips.

The winners were very much 'in-house' with   Ros's cousin coming first and choosing Licquorice Allsorts and second was Robyn James's daughter Lisa,  who received her mum's design - Circles of the Past.

But the BIG winner was Helena:  a clear choice.  Both the Viewers and the Members voted for Helena 's 'My MO BOM Journey'.  Congratulation Helena  ..  a very popular decision (and I didn't have a full picture !!) .

Elva and Meg took time to say a huge thankyou to everyone who was involved in the organisation and the sheer work involved in putting together a three day quilt show:

A beautiful story and picture to end the post:   while I was quilting in the Stitching Lounge two little girls (10 year old twins) were watching me intently.  We chatting about what I was doing and then I asked if they would like to try  ...  the picture says it all

Lots to chat about on Thursday  ...  enjoy a few days of rest and gentle sewing  ..   Iris

Day 2 - only one more day

Only one more day to enjoy the Hunters Hill Quilt Show: there is so much to love about this show.

A showcase of five quilts by the Quilters of Tomorrow: this is Lilly's quilt from kids corner.

In the Stitching Lounge, June was giving quilting lessons - and chatting with visitors

On Thursday lunch time,  after the work was done, our favourite quilting husbands took time to rest in the Stitching Lounge - no stitching though.

For the second day our Quilting Waitresses were working very hard.

And some more snapshot of the great quilts on display:

Galaxy by Robyn S.

Autumn Star by Sheila

Can't show too many quilts  ... visitors need to come and experience them for themselves.

Come and enjoy  ...

Day One ... lots of visitors

Day one of our 17th Biennial quilt show could only be described as a day full of positive visitors.

Full tables in the 'Quilt Cafe'   ...  quilters now skilled waitresses! Book your table for Saturday and Sunday !   Scones with jam and cream,  sandwiches, home made goodies and tea or coffee.

The Quilt Sales on Stage  ...   all sizes of quilts and a great variety of gifts ready for buyers.

The 'wagga' room is full of creative wool quilts  .. all for sale

Just one of the 30 baby quilts on display

and of course the many creative and varied exhibition quilts: a couple more of our prize winning quilts.

Batik Rainbow by Haley, made just because she wanted to

and a partial view of Helena's My MO BOM Journey - all cloth quilt with  much fussy cutting and so much detail to absorb.

More to come  ...  Saturday and Sunday !    The best part is that a major donation will go to research work into the mental health of our youth - no better investment for the future.

Enjoy !

Three more days of Quilt Show fun.       See you there.

4/7/16 BIG SHOW NEXT WEEK! ALL SET TO GO!

Yes, we're there! All is in readiness for our 17th Biennial Show, and we can't wait.
During these last few days, keep talking to friends and neighbours, keep distributing flyers and if you have Facebook or Instagram, keep passing on and sharing our promotional material. I'm sure it will all make a difference in the success of numbers. Thanks everyone for all the effort in preparing the show.

Obviously the Fairland Hall will be deserted next Wednesday, 11th August, because we'll all be at the Town Hall setting up and preparing for Opening Night. If by any chance something we need has been left at Fairland, just see myself or Meg and we will arrange for someone to go down and open it for you. I'm confident that most people took whatever will be needed last Thursday before we locked up.

SHOW AND TELL

Not a great deal to share this week as we are slightly preoccupied! But here are a few pieces which were on display.

Val has made a gorgeous baby quilt for The Grace Centre, which is reversible. It's really charming Val. Well done.

Susan D showed us a quilt she used as therapy while she went through her cancer treatments. It gave her something else to focus on. An excellent approach, and a lovely result.

Fran C showed us a quilt top made from  Kaffe Fassett fabrics which came from America. Very nice subtle effects Fran. It will look lovely on a bed, and is a good size for that as well!

Thanks all for the massive effort over the last few months. There will be plenty to see and share on the blog during the show, so watch this space! Have fun!
